McCullough will return for Second Season
(Thursday, August 29th, 2019 – Moncton, NB.) If re-signing a core group of players from last year’s NBL Canada Championship team was indeed what the Magic set out to do this off-season, they certainly have gotten off to a great start. The team announced today that fan favourite Wayne McCullough has re-signed for the 2019-2020 NBL Canada season, marking the third player thus far to commit to coming back to Moncton and defending their championship.
McCullough, a 6’6” wing from Hockley Texas will return to the Hub city for his second stint with the Magic. Last season the Small Forward started in 37 games for the NBL Champs, averaging 9.6 points, to go along with 4.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 52.6% from the field.
Known for his hard nose play, and constant work effort, McCullough quickly became a crowd favourite at the Avenir Centre. He was also a recipient of the NBL’s Commissioner award for his work in the local community.
“I am very excited to come back to Moncton, a place that treated myself and my family so well. I know the city wants to see us defend our championship, and I want nothing less then to repeat” commented McCullough.
Head Coach and GM of Player Operations Joe Salerno felt it was a no-brainer to bring back McCullough.
“Wayne is they type guy we want playing for our organization. He is a team first player, someone who will come to work everyday, leave it all on the floor, and puts winning before everything else. He was one of our best perimeter defenders last season and is a tremendous rebounder from the wing position. I think Wayne is just starting to scratch the surface of his true potential, and I look forward to seeing his continued progress this season” said Salerno.
McCullough marks the third player to re-sign with he Magic after their championship campaign in 2018-19, joining guard Jason Calliste, and forward Denzell Taylor. The team plans to announce more player signings in the coming weeks.
