Magic Add Big Man to Roster 7’ Foot Centre Zeke Marshall Signs with Team

(Moncton, New Brunswick – September 10, 2018) Getting “bigger” in the front court was something that was high on the priority list for Magic Head Coach and GM of Player Operations, Joe Salerno this offseason. The Magic took another big step towards fulfilling that priority with the recent signing of 7’ Centre Zeke Marshall.

Marshall, a native of McKeesport, Pennsylvania stands 7 feet tall, weighs 245 pounds and posses a 7’6” wingspan. Its not so much the size that has Salerno excited, but the combination of the size and the athleticism that comes with it.

“It’s pretty rare to find a player with the combination of Zeke’s size, mobility and skill set. He has great length and is very quick off his feet when it comes to rebounding the ball and blocking shots. We lacked a true rim protector last season, so to add someone of his presence to the paint this year is a big plus for our organization” commented Salerno.

The 27-year-old Shot Blocker had a stellar collegiate career at the University of Akron, which saw him earn numerous conference accolades, including being named an All-MAC 1st team selection, as well as the conferences Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 when he averaged 3.7 blocks per game for the Zips.

His strong senior season at Akron caught the attention of many NBA teams, earning him a spot on the Philadelphia 76ers Summer League team in 2013. Since then, Marshall has played professionally in the NBA G-League with the Maine Red Claws, and the Grand Rapids Drive. He has also played professionally in Taiwan, Belgium, France and most recently in Saudi Arabia during the 2017-18 season.

“Zeke will add significant size, athleticism and depth to our front court. He is a high character guy, who has the potential to be a dominant player in the NBL Canada. I feel like he has only scratched the surface of what he is truly capable of at the pro level.”

Marshall will join other Magic big men, Billy White, Denzell Taylor, Renaldo Dixon and Walter Pitchford among others, when the team opens its training camp at Crandall University in late October. This marks the 10th official player signing the Magic have announced in anticipation of the 2018-19 NBL Canada season. The team expects to have up to 16 players in camp, with more signings to come following their trip to China scheduled to leave on September 20th.
