A record setting, 3500 plus fans in attendance at the Avenir Centre as the Moncton Magic use that energy and support to jump out to an early 2-0 series lead over the St Johns Edge. Moncton played from behind for a majority of this game, briefly regaining a 69-67 lead late in the 3rd, and continued to lead throughout the 4th quarter. Moncton is hungry, hungry 4theChip as they defeat St Johns, 107-100.
Trey Kell joined the Magic on February 10th and has since spoiled Moncton fans with his greatness. The talented point guard recorded a game-high 29 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, seemingly effortlessly. Kell is a professional and strictly about his business every time he touches the floor. Payer of the Game, Jason Calliste, is what every championship contending team needs. A confident veteran player that understands his role and strengths. He's a shooter and shooters shoot. Calliste came off the bench and took the "edge" off with 26 points and 9 rebounds, on 67% shooting from the field. Billy White recorded 23 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. While Corey Allmond and Wayne McCullough both chipped in with 9 points.
After a quiet Game 1, Desmond Lee was very aggressive for the St Johns Edge with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Murphy Burnatowski had 19 points and 5 rebounds. Jarryn Skeete finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. While Glen Davis and Russell Byrd each contributed 14 points. Davis finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks. However, he suffered a lower body injury early in the 4thquarter and did not return.
The Magic and Edge will face one another for Game 3 on Monday May 13th at 7pm in St Johns (6:30pm Atlantic Time Zone). The Moncton Magic are up 2-0, while the desperate St Johns Edge will seek to protect home court in front of their home fans. Tune into NBLC Live for complete coverage throughout the Finals.
