Eyes looking forward as Magic sign new Head Coach

Team secures experienced NBA G-League Coach - Nelson Terroba from the Texas Legends
As Covid-19 continues to make decisions around playing in 2020 difficult, the Moncton Magic have started to shift some of their focus towards the future 2021-22 season.  Nelson Terroba has been signed as the new Head Coach & GM of Player Operations for the organization.

“It is an honor to be named Head Coach and General Manager of the Moncton Magic.  The chance to return to the NBL Canada for a championship organization like the Magic is an opportunity that I am truly excited to be a part of.” Terroba said.
The Legends are the NBA G-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, owned by famous American entrepreneur Mark Cuban.  Prior to his current role as Assistant Coach & Defensive Coordinator with the Legends, Terroba also spent one season with the NBA G-League affiliate of the Orlando Magic as the assistant coach.  He has also coached with the Bakersfield Jam (now the Northern Arizona Suns) of the G League.

“I am very thankful for my experiences in the NBA G-League.  I look forward to translating some of the lessons I have learned while working with Coach Galanopoulos and the Texas Legends and sharing some of those best practices with the Magic,” Terroba said.

There won't be a culture shock awaiting Nelson on his arrival to the Maritimes with the Magic, as Terroba spent two years as the Head Coach and GM of the Saint John Riptide in the NBLC, earning a #1 Team Defence ranking in 2018-19 with a squad that included Jeremiah Mordi.  Mordi was awarded the Most Improved Player in the NBLC during his time with the Magic this year.

“I really enjoyed my first stint in the NBLC.  It is a league filled with great players, great coaching and great basketball,” Terroba said.

After graduating with the University of Texas, Terroba also earned his Masters in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in 2013. While working for the University of Texas from 1998-2002 he joined the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball program where he served as an assistant under coach Rick Barnes.

“Helping players and staff reach their individual goals is one of the most satisfying aspects of being a coach . It is so important that we create a daily environment of improvement and development for our players and staff,” Terroba said.  "We look forward to sharing our team with the great fans and entire Moncton community. We want to honor the game while competing at the highest level for championships. We look forward to returning this exciting brand of basketball to the Avenir Centre,” Terroba finishes.
