Former AUS Star Signs with Magic

Canadian Theon Reefer Joins Club

(Thursday, October 24, 2019 – Moncton, NB.)  The Magic have added more Canadian content to their upcoming training camp with the recent signing of former Saint Mary's star forward Theon Reefer.

Reefer a 6'6" small forward from Toronto, Ontario was a two-year starter for the Huskies, a member of U-Sport's AUS conference, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In his senior season at Saint Mary's he averaged 17.3 points to go along with 6.7 rebounds per game, helping lead his team to a birth in the CIS's National Quarter Finals.

The Toronto native is no stranger to the NBL Canada. In 2017-18, his rookie season in the pro ranks, he played 46 games with the Halifax Hurricanes, and earned a trip to the NBL Canada Finals. His play during his time with the Hurricanes is what caught Magic Head Coach and GM of Player Operations Joe Salerno's eye.

"I actually never saw Theon play when he was at Saint Mary's, so his time in the NBL a couple years back was my first look at him. I was immediately impressed with his athleticism, and size. He had a pro body right out of school, and you could tell physically was ready to play in our league" commented Salerno. "I always thought Theon made things happen when he was out on the court, and possibly could have even played a bigger role that season. He has a natural knack for scoring the ball. I am very interested to see him in camp and figure out exactly what he is able to bring to the table for us."

After sitting out last season, Reefer says he is anxious and ready to get back out on the court.

"I'm excited to have an opportunity to be a part of a great organization! I've seen all the signings and returning players, and we have a lot of talent! I'm ready to work and compete day in and day out" stated Reefer.

Earlier this week the Magic released its pre-season schedule, which kicks off on November 19th, with the club's annual Inter-squad game, which will be played at Crandall University. This is the first-time fans will have the opportunity to see the team's full training camp roster in action. Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm. All proceeds from the game will go towards Crandall University's athletics program.
