The defending champions, the London Lightning came to town last night and were looking to make some noise during their first appearance at the Avenir Centre. However, the Moncton Magic had other plans in store. Both teams battled down the stretch but Moncton took care of business at home, defeating London 119-112, extending their winning streak to four games, and improving to a 16-7 record. After winning a close game against the Saint John Riptide on January 29th, Magic fans experienced another dynamic finish as the game required 2 overtime quarters to determine a winner. This game had playoff implications written all over it…

Both teams came out flat to start the game. Though, London locked in on defense, prided themselves on pushing the pace, staying active on the offensive boards, and outscored Moncton's bench 23-11. Due to London's increased liveliness, Moncton found themselves trailing 51-43 at halftime. To the Magic's credit, they were missing shots that they usually make.

Nick Evans was back in the starting lineup for the Moncton Magic after serving his one-game suspension. The center from Illinois came out with an immense amount of energy and started hot from downtown, connecting on 4-5 attempts. Nick Evans and Duke Mondy scored over half of the Magic's points in the first half, with 12 points each.

Regaining momentum in the 3rd, Moncton outscored London 24-9. During this time, Corey Allmond was able to find his range, finishing with 16 points and 6 assists. Leading by 10 points early in the 4th quarter, London fought their way back to force two overtimes. However, Duke Mondy stole the show, scoring 10 of his team high 30 points during the overtime frames, earning him the Player of the Game title as well as the NBLC Line of the Night. Mondy has been playing fantastic for your hometown Magic.

For the London Lightning, Mo Bolden finished with a team high 18 points. Starters Garrett Williamson and Kevin Ware Jr. contributed 16 points apiece. While AJ Gaines Jr. and Jaylen Babb-Harrison added extremely quality minutes off London's bench.

The Magic are sizzling right now. Players are adjusting to their roles, trusting the decisions of the coaching staff and one another on the court. This goes along way to building strong team chemistry as they continue to improve.

The Moncton Magic's next game will come against the redemption seeking Riptide in Saint John on the 6th of February. The Magic return to the Avenir Centre Sunday, February 10th for a matinée against their provincial rivals, the Saint John Riptide.
